Overview of the Data Protection Act in Thailand

The PDPA, Thailand's first comprehensive data protection legislation, is largely influenced by the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The PDPA's primary goal is to protect the personal data of individuals (referred to as "data subjects") by regulating the collection, use, disclosure, and transfer (collectively, the "processing") of personal data. Further, "with the PDPA in place, Thai businesses can satisfy the EU's strict requirements on data export measures under the Thailand-EU FTA,"iiithus expanding the reach of their businesses to Europe and beyond. Currently, the PDPA does not have an official English translation.
